With over 2,500 volunteers, the New York New Jersey Trail Conference does amazing things to preserve, promote, and protect the trails. Our volunteer Trail Crews are instrumental in being stewards of the land and maintaining the integrity of trails.
Trail Crews build, restore, and create new reroutes of trails when needed throughout parks in New York and New Jersey. Additionally, our amazing volunteer crews build footbridges, create stone stairs, and place stepping stones across streams to generally improve the hiking experience for all trail users! No experience is needed and training is given on site. Be part of a team that gives back to the trails you love and enjoy creating solutions that last generations.
The only qualifications to joining the team is a sense of enthusiasm and willingness to work hard surrounded by stunning vistas.

Harriman and Bear Mountain are one of the most famous hiking spots in the New York Metro area. With amazing views, a great variety of trails and lakes, it is no wonder that this area is often showcased whenever anyone is talking about places to hike. Bear Mountain is also the birthplace of the Appalachian Trail, with the first section of the trail opening up behind the Bear Mountain October 7, 1923. Throughout the park there are also historic ruins, festivals, and great spots to stop and have a picnic.

Our West Hudson South Crew restores eroding trails and creates new reroutes where needed in Harriman, along with building footbridges, creating stone stairs, and placing stepping stones across streams and wet patches, generally improving your hiking experience. No experience is needed, training is given on site. Be part of a team that gives back to the trails you love and enjoy creating solutions that last generations.
The only qualifications to joining the team is a sense of enthusiasm and willingness to learn new things in an unbeatable environment.
